The animal advocacy world has been up in arms over news that convicted dog fighter and killer Michael Vick recently adopted a new dog, with criticisms and concerns coming in from every corner of the Internet.
Hailed by The Humane Society of the United States as a repentant hero, and being propped up as spokesperson for both Subway and Nike hasn’t helped quell the tide of anger for animal lovers who believe Michael Vick should never be allowed to own another pet. That sentiment was echoed this week as shock jock Howard Stern stepped up to offer his take on the story.
During his radio show this week, Stern was asked by a caller what he felt about Michael Vick owning a new dog, and his response was both candid and full of the regular colourful language we have come to expect from him.
Was Howard Stern’s opinion right on the money? Should Michael Vick be allowed to have a dog? Should we all just move on? Leave a comment below.
Soooo–in Howard’s comments he never did tell us where that asshole Vick got his dog. I was told it was the HSUS. I contacted them and they wrote back telling me that they, ‘don’t adopt dogs out’. What’s the truth and how can we prove he got the dog from the HSUS?

When that arrogant P.O.S. made the statement that he felt he shouldn’t have went to prison for what he did I was outraged. Now the P.O.S. is saying he got the dog for his children because they shouldn’t suffer for something he did, whereas any rational thinking person would realize is a effin lie. I’d LOVE to see some major MASS MEDIA for ANIMAL RIGHTS. All the big celebrites/ musicians who love animals should MAKE A DENT in the problem by giving it MASS MEDIA EXPOSURE … like a LIVE AID concert for animals. In my eyes .. that would be a clear way to truly “MAKE A DIFFERENCE” for animals. So many people aren’t even aware of the magnitude of issues that are going on in the world RE: the animals. We are THEIR ONLY VOICE! PLEASE … let’s make use of it!!! Please … stay with this subject. Help them. You have the power. Be the initiator. And ,,= BTW … When animals are adopted … references are checked so that the adopters are found to be people who will be responsible pet owners. An animal would NEVER be given to this MF’er (apologies for the language) by any RESPONSIBLE group. But … NO .. this MF’er found someone who is enabling/allowing him to have another animal. A different opinion- The amount of emotion put into animals is ridiculous. RIght or wrong those were fighting dogs. Bred to fight. He didn’t steal herding dogs or seeing eye dogs and try to force them to fight. Mr. Vick did not rape a woman or a child, he did not murder in cold blood. Mr. Vick used those animals for what they were bred for. It may not be for the weak of heart and it may have been wrong but that is what those dogs are bred for. And he certainly paid a price for it.
In my opinion the real crime occurs when inept pet owners are shocked that thier pit bull (a really neat breed by the way) comes apart and tears into a neighbor’s dog, or worse yet a child.
We are a society of excess, we are spoiled and our common sense has been sabatoged by animal rights extremists, zeolots and Walt Disney (he made the cute little animals talk- they don’t by the way.) We live in the United States of America (remember freedom) and yet a family from a culture that eats cat or dog could not go to the pound and pick out an animal.
My point being that one, weather or not he owns another dog does not really deserve this much emotion or attention. I’m pretty sure he knows he is in the spotlight for how he treats said family pet. And two, the United States needs a huge dose of common sense and to get it’s priorities in order. Let’ get this worked up about lynching a child molester, a rapist or a serial killer. How about being this compassionate about comforting the victims of said crimes?

You know…. those dogs were NOT fighters at birth. They were MADE INTO FIGHTING DOGS. You know these… fighting dogs that were rescued from the Vick Kennels, they are THERAPY dogs now. They are GOOD dogs. They were forced to fight. And people put effort into animals because they have no voice. I assure you that there are MORE people fighting for human rights than those fighting against animal cruelty, please educate yourself on this issue.
And for the record, he DID murder those dogs in cold blood. Is a life not worth as much because it is that of an animal? Even moreso than the actual deaths were the manner in which he killed those dogs, drowning, electrocution. The were born innocent pups, beaten tortured and starved and ultimately died in fear. Pit bulls will only fight and kill if they have been taught to do it and any breed of dog or other animal can be taught to kill if some person desires to do it.

FYI Animal abusers usually go on to also abuse people – people who are weaker then they are and in this case I would say that puts the entire Vick family in harms way.

EJ – Vick used his OWN family pets as bait dogs, putting them in the ring – laughing and thinking it was funny when they got injured or killed by the fighting dogs. And bait dogs aren’t bred for fighting – they are used to train the fighters – and they are viciously attacked severely, often times to the point of death.

I have 2 pit bull rescues, one is a tri-pawd found on the side of the road so badly mangled he had to have his leg amputated. The other was found wandering the streets of Brooklyn, NY. Both are the most loving, affection, goofy, and playful dogs. Dogs – that’s what they are.

I remember when he said he was considering another dog once the probation was over.. He said it wouldn’t be another pitbull. I don’t care if it’s not a pitbull, getting another dog period is NOT OK! Whether it’s a pitbull or not he should not be allowed to own one or touch one ever again! I had 2 pitbulls, have had a few dogs in my life and I wouldn’t sell a dog, cat, or any other pet to him for ANY amount of money. It’s sad what some people are willing to do for a little extra cash. :( I cherish my pets, they’re part of my family, and so are their babies. They deserve to be treated as such and protected from a monster like Vick!

What in the Name of All that’s Holy were they thinking????? I know people who won’t give a dog to someone I hadn’t checked out, because I want to make sure they go to a loving home. As I recall there was something in all thatunpleasantness that did say he couldn’t own another pet, but I am misremembering. Someone from SPCA should check into that. NIKE has, I believe, resigned him for ads, but I could be wrong on that one, too. I wouldn’t allow him to own another dog unless he could prove to the court that he undergone counseling and his therapist was willing to testify that he was suitable to own another pet.
ARight on! Every time he screws up on the football field this would definitely be appropriate. Every time I look at my two dogs I think of what was done to the dogs by either Vick or his buds…. Sick. It never ceases to amzae me what money can and does buy. Vick was given opportunities the majority never receive, receive a salary only the few ever get, and he has abused it. Verses being someone our youth can look up to in sports, he has disgraced the game of football, insulted the youth, was allowed to breed (& I am refering to the reality he has children) and will continue to live in the lap of luxury. This man as all shared has siad “up yours!” to the laws all others must comply to. I truly believe this slap against the law, justifing ownership of a dog, or any pet, using his children as the reason/excuse as to why this is okay shows WHAT A USER OF ALL THINGS AT THE EXPENSE OF ALL THINGS this so called human really is. The prison time ordered should have been sentenced to be that of the life expectancy of the dog he killed, not 23 months. AND NO EARLY RELEASE. If this was done he would be past his prime of being able t o return to play football. I truly believe Vick’s is in front of the Karma train… just a matter of time. Finally, if I had my way, when at a football game when he is on the field I would stand and turn my back. When his team plays we dont watch that game. It may not stop him, but it allows me to feel as if I am not encouraging his success. If enough of the “football fan” world would NOT watch his team play maybe the powers that are will realize “money sometimes buys mistakes”. I am a firm believer in God. I believe what goes around comes around. And I can only pray the good Lord forgives my disgust of Vick’s and all others that abuse animals or humans. I do not own a pet. I don’t because our lifestyle is one that would not allow a pet to have us around as often as it should have us. Our yard is not one that is large enough to allow a pet to run, play and enjoy. But a few ofour friends have pets, boxers, pitbulls, we called them our nephews! (all have male dogs). Regardless Vick’s got away with murder.

I love the fact that your friends dogs you refer to as nephews I call two friends my anna’s uncle and aunt so I know that your soul must be kind towards our bullies… One small comment I’ve rescued three dogs so far my remaining one is a 13 year old pit which for the last 10 years has been at my side loving me with a heart that makes me a better person. a person who has raised the call for those that can not speak. over the last 10 years my life has changed considerably relationships housing ..the university degree I left behind while doing my masters (leaving a province that was bringing in BSL) to a more friendly one where i live now your life will never be that perfect place you think like having children there is no perfect time life gets in the way jobs change economy so forth saving a life is the memory you will have…When I left ontario i sold everything packed my car and two pits and headed west …no home to go to no back yard but my dogs have been loved I can’t always do the rockwellian (to use a word of our famous host) version of a home but I’ve never not loved my dogs they have never gone hungry at my hand, they have never been punished physically, They were rescues, taken not forgotten, not euthanized at the hands of A.C…hopefully you could do the same…if not now please consider it in your not so distant future one of gods creatures waits for someone just like you to love.
I normally don’t listen to Howard Stern,due to his language, but I totally agree with him. I think we should tie Vick down and rub his penis and testicles with raw meat and let 50 dogs loose. Maybe then he would feel some empathy towards dogs.
No Michael Vick should never be allowed to own another animal again! He has demonstrated over & over his belief of what a dog is for; representing his manhood! We also now know from numerous accounts & sickening testimony what he did to those dogs who did not “represent”! A leopard does not change its spots nor a tiger its stripes. Vick is what he is & will forever remain an abuser to animals. He was never convicted of animal cruelty or abuse, but that does not change what he really is. Cindy, HSUS is all about making profit for lobbying and marketing, they do NOT spend alot of money for shelters, so it is good you aren’t going to continue to support them. Instead, support your local ASPCA or shelters, or any breed rescue organization in your area. They almost always need money, where HSUS just needs it for their high paid execs.

Vick should never in the rest of his life be in charge of or responsibile for ANY vulnerable living thing, not a dog, a cat, a hamster or a baby. I concur with howard stern totally. how is it any different – a person convicted of gun charges gets a ban for a given period of time after their jail sentence (some being a lifetime) .You have different driving offences in which you can be sentence to jail, and after you loose the privilege to drive for some period. Yet Mr. Vick (and I use the term loosely because I want my statement to be valued) has no need for money, power or fame that might com from running an underground illegal dog fighting operation, lies to the court system about the level of involvement, gets sentence does his time. Then comes out and when an interviewer asks about if he has regrets in his life he says no…when pushed he responds saying the amount of time served was to harsh. then in the infinite wisdom in which he hides behind the needs of his children then acquires a dog. My husband and I are retired and foster puppies for a wonderful Rescue. I look in their
precious little eyes and I am so glad that they have been rescued from a kill shelter. I cannot even imagine harming them.

Howard Stern is right on the money. Animal abusers are like pediphiles in that they will never mentally change wanting to abuse. This dog does something annoying to him, who knows what sort of punitive horrors this dog will endure. What is wrong with the court system that they did not restrain Vick from ever owning another animal? Is it because he has celebrity status? Vick is a vulgur, abusive human being. There is a direct connection between people who abuse animals and those who abuse people. I feel terrible for this dog. I’m hoping the petition going around will lead to the removal of that dog from the Vick home.

Everyone is forgetting that Vick didn’t go to prison on dog fighting charges, he went on gambling charges. I can’t see such a stipulation being attached to a gambling charge. As far as I know he never actually admitted any wrongdoing when it comes to dog fighting at all.

Michael Vick should never be allowed to own a dog, how that was not a stipulation in the terms of his sentencing baffles me. I bet if it was a regular person that did this the circumstances would be different. I love animals, and used to like Michael Vick but that is just sick to treat animals that way, and then think you deserve to own another one as a pet!

This man is truly a sociopath and our society has allowed him to go on his merry way with absolutely no consequences. The jail time was not enough. Vick is not remorseful for any of the atrocious acts he committed and he never will be. The person who gave him this dog should also have his/her head examined. There is something wrong here!

At least not until he has endured the same level of torture and pain that he inflicted on all those dogs.
