Is Vancouver Home To The Next Luka Magnotta?

Despite a history of murdering her family pets, and openly admitting that she has the desire and intent to kill homeless people, convicted animal killer Kayla Bourque has been released on probation in Vancouver, Canada prompting many residents to ask the question “Is Vancouver home to the next Luka Magnotta?”

According to a CBC News article from November 29th, 2012:

A 22-year-old B.C. woman who admitted to taking delight in killing animals and fantasizing about shooting homeless people is set to be released on probation with strict conditions.

One psychologist who spoke with Kayla Bourque ahead of her sentencing Wednesday in Vancouver Provincial Court testified she will likely require supervision for the rest of her life.

Kayla Bourque was released back into the general population several weeks ago with 46 strict probation requirements she must abide by for the next 3 years, among them being a ban on owning restraining devices including duct tape, straps or rope, no access to computer devices aside from looking for work at a probation office, no contact with animals or anyone under the age of eighteen unless supervised and a 6PM to 6AM curfew.

These conditions were put in place after chilling evidence came forward as detailed in the same CBC News article:

Adopted from a Romanian orphanage at the age of eight months, Bourque grew up in Prince George. While in high school, Maclean said she admitted to having the urge to “kill someone.”

After graduation, she enrolled in criminology and psychology at Simon Fraser University.

While living in residence last March, she told another student she had disembowelled and dismembered cats in the Prince George area and that she fantasized about getting a gun and shooting a homeless person.

She also said she wanted to kill someone in residence and was taking forensic classes because she wanted to “get away” with something in the future.

MacLean said the classmate told campus security, who alerted police.

Bourque was initially arrested under the Mental Health Act and a search of her residence later turned up a blue nylon bag with a kitchen knife, a razor blade, three large garbage bags, a hypodermic needle and a mask.

Police also found video clips depicting her killing and hanging the family dog.”

The correlation between Bourque and the now infamous Luka Magnotta case is being made by animal rights activists and residents of Vancouver who see a chilling similarity in the cases detailed on Wikipedia.

Luka Rocco Magnotta … is a Canadian pornographic actor and model accused of killing and dismembering Lin Jun, a Chineseinternational student, then mailing his severed limbs to the offices of Canadian political parties and to elementary schools in another province.

After a video allegedly depicting the murder was posted online, Magnotta fled the country, becoming the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and prompting an international manhunt.  He was apprehended on June 4, 2012, in an Internet café in Berlin while reading news stories about himself.

He was previously sought by animal rights groups for allegedly making videos of himself torturing kittens and posting them online.

The Vancouver Police took the added precaution of sending out a warning to residents of Vancouver, including pictures of Bourque, urging to them to immediately report any instances of the convicted animal killer breaking her terms of probation.

Bourque’s own mother has gone on record stating that she fears if her daughter does not receive psychiatric treatment, which has been ordered by the courts, that her actions may escalate and become more serious.

As the world is still reeling from the international manhunt that took place after Luka Magnotta went on a blood stained killing spree of animals, that allegedly manifested into the murder and dismemberment of a foreign student in Montreal, tensions and fears are rising once again now that Bourque has been released back into the general population.

What do you think?  Is there enough protection in place to ensure that Bourque is not a threat to animals or society?  If Bourque follows through on her fantasies of killing homeless people who should be to blame?  Leave a comment below.
